Red-tailed Hawk

This red-tailed hawk surprised me with a visit at the golf course today. He had a fresh meal in his grasps when I first saw him. A squirrel met its demise this day.

The bird of prey took its capture and tried to fly away with it, but could only get about 100 yards before he had to sit down and start eating it. I did not get any pics of the actual lunch time massacre but got some good ones of the hawk perched in the tree just outside our shop.

This one may be a juvenile.

Great site for bird I.D.
